Happy New Year – Tanager Update
This time last year we posted out our traditional New Year cards to our professional contacts and friends of Tanager. No one would have predicted then how rapidly normality would be disrupted and how quickly we would have to adapt and adjust to living and operating in a world caught up in a pandemic.
At the start of what is already looking to be another turbulent year, with some hope visible on the horizon, we wanted to take a moment to look back and update you on developments at Tanager.
There were few certainties last year. We could probably agree that video conferencing is here to stay as an acceptable form of communication, although we have all missed seeing our colleagues, clients and professional contacts in person.
We might also agree that businesses have been forced to digitise overnight. This is not a bad thing in our opinion, hopefully improving workflows, creating efficiencies and, importantly, finally reducing the endless reams of paper that professional services seem to have existed on.
Amidst all of this, 2020 has been a busy one at Tanager. We moved to homeworking on March 13thand thanks to being a cloud-based business were able to maintain our high level of client service. Working with mainly US-based custodians we have continued a drive towards reducing paper and working with e-signature tools to speed along account opening and specific client requests.
Hiring and Promotions
Continued high demand for our planning-focused services meant that despite the pandemic we have continued to expand, bringing in new talent and promoting where possible to recognise individual success and growth.
Providing focused and dedicated customer service is important to us. We promoted Shivani Hindocha into the new role of Client Service Manager and hired Harshita Bedi in April as a Client Service Associate. As we write the Partners have started the process to recruit two more to this team.
James Barnett was promoted to Compliance & Operations Manager providing much needed support to our Managing Partners, recognition of his dedication to learning and development since his move to Tanager from Fisher Investments.
Our Financial Planning Team was bolstered by the arrival of Lewis Semakula in February and Marta de Gouveia in April. In December Marta was promoted to Head of Financial Planning recognising her 20 plus years’ experience in financial planning in the UK and the US.
Finally, our Investment Team also saw new faces in 2020. Krishna Gaglani joined as an Investment Associate in February with Sam Lees arriving in September bringing 11 years investment research experience. Sam takes the role of Senior Investment Associate providing vital support to our CIO, having previously worked with our Managing Partners at another wealth management firm.
Our focus on US/UK financial planning and investment management means that we are always looking to recruit financial advisors with experience of advising in the USA. In January, Nicole Ralph joined the team, bringing extensive experience of working with international families in a large regional US wealth manager. Nicole, herself a dual national, had returned to the UK with her British husband and youngest child, and has hit the ground running.
We are very keen to develop new talent, as well. At the start of this year, Susan Blaylock completed the transition to Financial Advisor having spent the previous 14 months working with the different teams at Tanager and having completed her requisite professional exams. We wish her every success.
The Partners are pleased to announce that Patrick Mulhern and Abbas Somji have been invited to join our partnership. With different skill sets and considerable passion for helping other Anglo-American families we look forward to working with Patrick and Abbas to continue the rapid growth Tanager Wealth Management has experienced since 2012.
Finally, this year has brought into stark relief a number of the inequalities in our society. We’ve seen that addressing these problems and making changes requires effort from all of us, which is why in lieu of our traditional Christmas gifts to clients this year we have made the decision to donate to two charities helping those who are less well off:
- Project HOME in Philadelphia, close to our US office, helps get homeless families back on their feet.
- Refuge helps the victims of domestic violence in the UK.
From everyone here at Tanager we’d like to wish you a very happy – and hopefully less turbulent – 2021.
