Finding the Right Insurance

Finding the right insurance cover can be difficult for expats who often have houses, cars and staff in more than one country. It needn’t be a problem according to Richard Grainger, Broking Director of Centor Insurance and Risk Management. In this Tanager Talk, Richard debunks some of the common misconceptions surrounding insurance cover and explains the benefits for private clients of having a bespoke insurance program.

To begin with, while standard household policies may look sufficient, they tend to have limitations and restrictions on those things that are important to private clients such as jewellery, fine art and other collectables. Using a professional advisor who performs a thorough fact find insures that the policy is tailored to the client’s requirements and provides sufficient coverage. Specialist companies can assist with walk-through appraisals if required.

A common misconception for clients with assets in multiple countries is that a local broker is needed in different territories. That is no longer the case, with insurers such as Chubb and Hiscox offering products through local representatives around the globe. An international family’s complete insurance needs can be brought together in one location such as London, offering clients the opportunity to simplify administration while improving protection and value.

According to Richard, the most important criteria to consider when choosing insurance is to look at the quality of the insurer and their claim service record. “You want a really strong broker and a good insurer who is going to pay claims quickly and fairly. It’s absolutely key.”
