Uncovering the American expatriate
In this Tanager Talk, social scientist and international migration expert, Dr. Amanda Klekowski von Koppenfels, puts overseas Americans under the microscope. Drawing on research that involved hundreds of surveys and in depth interviews, her findings challenge many of the most common myths about American expats, including whether we should be using the term “expat” at all.
Dr Klekowski von Koppenfels directs the MA in International Migration at the Brussels School of International Studies, University of Kent in Brussels, Belgium. A native of western Massachussets, she received her MA and PhD from Georgetown University and an AB from Harvard University. Her book, Migrants or Expatriates? Americans in Europe was published in 2014 by Palgrave Macmillan.
